When Jesus, our Lord and Savior was hanging on the cross to redeem us from sin, God's character of compassion, grace, and genuine forgiveness was on full display. As human beings, we may ask, how could a loving father allow his son to die an undeserving, horrific death on the cross. The answer is simple; he allowed it because of humanity. Mankind was engulfed in sin to the point that his only way out was to be saved, but he could not save himself. From the very beginning, man has repeatedly disobeyed and dishonored God. He deserved to have been annihilated, but God's forgave him. He gave him a chance to live, to turn back to him, and to receive his gift of compassionate grace. If he remains faithful unto death, he will receive the benefit of living eternally in the heavenly home that Jesus has already prepared for the saved.
